He retired from the late-night gig at the end of the 2022 after 26 years. While this role gave Buddy a high-profile at the Festival, he is also a songwriter of great renown whose iconic song, “Getting Dark Again”, was inducted into the Cape Breton Music Industry Hall of Fall in 2023. In his time as host of the Club, Buddy crossed paths with almost everyone who played at the Festival and a number of those folks are gathered this evening for this special tribute to the affable singer-songwriter from the North Shore. Archie Fisher from Scotland, Shane Pendergast from PEI, and Cape Bretoners J.P. Cormier, Nipper MacLeod, and Steve MacIntyre add theirvoices to this evening’s celebration while CapeBreton fiddle and piano pair Wendy MacIsaac and Tracey MacNeil round out the lineup with some tunes.

Day 14 - Monday, October 14, 2024 - 2 Celtic Colours ConcertsSongs and Tunes in the Afternoon at 2:00 PM in the St. Matthew Wesley United Church This little white church wa the perfect setting for these artists from Scotland, Ireland, and Cape Breton. With family roots in Inverness, Cape Breton, fiddler Dara Smith-MacDonald plays in a strong, lively, traditional style and is a regular at concerts, festivals, ceilidhs, and dances throughout the island. Dara can often be found on stage with Adam Young, a sought-after piano player from Marion Bridge. Dara and Adam released three award-nominated CDs together. Cathy Ann MacPhee, one of the great voices in Gaelic song, was born on the Isle of Barra in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. Màiri Chaimbeul is a harpist and composer, originally from the Isle of Skye, whose music blends Gaelic tradition with improvisation and modern textures. With a soulful and commanding voice, Rìoghnach Connolly draws from Irish traditional music but brings a contemporary energy that is all her own. Ruairidh Gray is an award-winning Gàidhlig singer from the village of Daliburgh on the Island of South Uist who is making his first appearance at Celtic Colours in this concert. The Man With A Rhyme at 7:30 PM in the Highland Arts Theatre Almost fifty years ago, master guitarist, singer, and songwriter Archie Fisher recorded his first album in America, after establishing himself in the folk music scene at home in Scotland. Archie has been performing at Celtic Colours since 1998 and we are very pleased to feature him in concert this year. Known as Scotland’s foremost troubadour, the Scots Traditional Music Hall of Famer was joined at the lovely Highland Arts Theatre tonight by two exciting trios. Past Artist in Residence John Doyle hits the stage with fellow Irishmen Mick McAuley on accordion and Oisin McAuley on fiddle while the ever-versatile fiddler, piano player, and dancer Troy MacGillivray teams up with Fiddle Champion Caitlin Warbelow, and guitarist Jake Charron.
